Travelling for Boxing day sales and the return of domestic football is expected to increase traveller volume

Photographer: Boxing Day travellers are facing delays and disruption to rail, road and air journeys, amid ongoing strikes and increased footfall due to sales.
RMT general secretary Mick Lynch announced the strikes a week ago, saying that the union had “no choice” but to take the action after failing to be offered “anything that is acceptable to us” during a pay dispute. Mr Lynch acknowledged that travellers would be “disappointed, irritated and angry” about the action, but said that his members were facing an “extremely detrimental” offer.
Airport transfer services including the Stansted and Heathrow Express are closed, causing further challenges to those already impacted by Border force strikes.
