Police allege the juvenile stole a Ford Mustang from a storage lot prior to being pursued.
DETROIT -- The Brownstown Township Police Department says a minor who they believe was involved in the theft of three cars is expected to recover after he fell 25 feet to the ground when he lept over a retaining wall on I-75 while running from police.says the minor was transported to a nearby hospital for non-life-threatening injuries following the fall and his mother has been contacted.
The chase began Wednesday night, around 7 p.m. when the Woodhaven Police Department put out a notice that three Ford Shelby Mustang GT500s were stolen from a storage lot at the Ford Flat Rock Assembly Plant. A few minutes later, officers with the BTPD spotted the vehicles on northbound I-75 and began pursuing the suspects.
Police say officers attempted to pull over the vehicles, but the drivers did not cooperate. Pursuing officers were able to stay with one of the drivers who eventually ran out of gas near an overpass on I-75 near Pleasant Street in Detroit. When police approached the car, they say the minor got out of the passenger side and immediately jumped over the retaining wall, landing 25 feet below in an empty yard.
Additional police officers along with fire and EMS workers responded to the scene and provided medical treatment for the minor before transporting him to the hospital.
