A 15-year-old boy has been seriously injured in a crash involving a stolen car in Brisbane’s north, as police search for the driver who fled the scene. Police said the young passenger and driver were both “extremely lucky” to be alive after the stolen black Hyundai I30 crashed into a sign at the intersection of Beckett Rd and Albany Creek Rd, Bridgeman Downs just before 8pm Saturday. The driver then ran from the crash.

The 15-year-old passenger was taken to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, where he remains in a stable condition. Witnesses said the car was travelling at high speed before it crashed. “It’s been extensive damage ... We believe that speed was possibly a factor,” Senior Sergeant Leonie Scott said. “At this stage, we are still tracing down suspects.” The car, which had the Queensland registration 905HO2, was reported stolen from a Lawton address on July 1.
