After returning to the centre, police say Mr Lewis found the boy's body about 3.15pm, just before the afternoon run home, and called triple zero.
A prosecutor today told the court the boy had been fraudulently signed into the centre's attendance system and staff had noticed he wasn't there but no alarm was raised. The boy's body was found on the bus, which had been parked for the day outside Hambledon State School."Police have liaised with the family, and the broader family in Townsville," , Acting Detective Inspector Jason Smith said.
"We can confirm that we have a senior manager from Goodstart in Cairns who is working closely with the Queensland Police family liaison officer to ensure we do all that we can to support the family of the little boy during this tragic time," the company said in a statement.
