A 54-year-old man from Sydney's south who rushed back into his burning home to save his dogs in the early hours of Saturday has died in hospital | HatAlexander
Wayne Rare, his wife Toni Chapman and their two adult children were in their Moona Road apartment in Kirrawee when a fire broke out around 1.30am on Saturday.Family friend Diaz Nailer said the family managed to escape the flames, but the "brave and much loved" Mr Rare ran back inside to get the two dogs and suffered serious injuries. He was unable to find the animals, though one of them - "Blazey" - was later found with a neighbour.
Witnesses heard bangs and explosions coming from within the fire, which lit up the street until emergency services managed to extinguish it.Mr Rare was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, while Ms Chapman and the couple's 25-year-old son and 23-year-old daughter were taken to St George Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Ms Chapman remains in a serious but stable condition.GoFundMe
