The Brazoria County Expressway along Texas 288 has surpassed projections for traffic, prompting talk of eventually extending the roadway to reach the sprawling Meridiana community in Iowa Colony.
Brazoria County officials envision extending the toll expressway on Texas 288 further south to reach the Meridiana master-planned community.
“Hopefully in the near future and not in the distant future,” Sebesta said of the envisioned expressway extension. Now, he said,"We’re averaging over 800,000 transactions per month. We had more than 1 million transactions one month.Operated by the Brazoria County Toll Road Authority, the expressway includes four gantry locations where tolls are assessed, two each on the northbound and southbound lanes. All portions of the tollway require a TxTag or EZTag.
When all of the proposed extension projects are completed, the expressway will be about three times longer.Economic development further south along the Texas 288 corridor has already been in the works, but the extension could prove to be a boon for more development, said Cary Perrin, president and chief executive officer of the Alvin-Manvel Chamber of Commerce.
