Very sad news today
The smash, between a grey Mercedes and silver Skodia Fabia, happened on the eastbound carriageway of the motorway near junction 10 for the Croft Interchange at around 3.45am this morning . Emergency services were scrambled to the scene.
Two other men in the Mercedes - aged 21 and 23 - remained on the scene and were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. An investigation into the crash is now underway. Any witnesses, or anyone who has any footage of the crash, is being urged to contact Cheshire Police. Sergeant Russell Sime, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a serious collision which has resulted in the death of a 61-year-old man, and we are committed to doing all we can to establish exactly what took place.
"We would also like to hear from anyone who believes that they may have seen the occupants of the Mercedes fleeing the scene on foot following the incident.
