"Still Standing': Shipperd on NSW win | 02:30The Sydney Sixers have unveiled former Australian all-rounder James Hopes as their new Big Bash League coach, signing the Queensland cricket legend on a two-year contract.
Hopes, who played 84 ODIs and 12 T20Is for Australia will take charge of the men in magenta ahead of the 2026/27 season, with the powerhouse franchise hoping to end a six-year title drought. “I’m incredibly honoured to join the Sydney Sixers, a club with a proud history and a strong identity built on consistency, competitiveness and connection with its fans,” Hopes said in a statement. “I’m excited to work with a talented playing group and contribute to the next phase of the Sixers’ success in the BBL. ”Hopes previously served as a bowling coach for the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League and the Washington Freedom in Major League Cricket.
Since his retirement in 2016, he has also fulfilled assistant roles with the Delhi Capitals, Brisbane Heat, Queensland Bulls, Hobart Hurricanes and Tasmanian Tigers.
“James is an exceptional cricket mind with a proven track record of developing players and building high‑performing environments,” Sixers general manager Rachael Haynes said in a statement. “His depth of experience across Australian domestic cricket and international franchise competitions makes him an outstanding fit for the Sixers.
