USPGA: Spaniard Jon Rahm threw his club in a moment of disgust at the 16th during the opening round at Valhalla.
Australian duo Cameron Smith and Lucas Herbert are in contention entering the second round of action at the PGA Championship at Valhalla, where America n Xander Schauffele made a statement with a course record 62 on Friday morning.
Wet weather is expected for the second round of play, with the slight chance of a thunderstorm, although the rain itself is expected to be fairly intermittent, meaning there isn’t any real risk of a washout.“I think you know that at the start of the week anyway. It’s a major week,” he said after the opening round.
Smith and Herbert, who received a special invitation to the PGA Championship, lead the Australian contingent with Jason Day the next closest at a share of 65th after an even-par opening round.Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee, meanwhile, are even further back at a tie for 85th after finishing one-over while Cam Davis had a horror first round, rounding out the Australians on seven-over in a share for 150th.
