Detectives investigating the shooting death of Willie Thompson have released a computer-generated image of one of the men believed to have been involved.
Larger text size Very large text size Detectives investigating the cold case murder 15 years ago of a Melbourne gangland figure during the underworld war have released an image of a man they believe was involved. Willie Thompson, a 39-year-old who had connections to gangland figures including Carl Williams and Nik Radev, was sitting by himself in his car on Waverley Road in Malvern East on the night of July 21, 2003 when he was showered with bullets by two gunmen.

"Detectives now believe it’s likely that a third person was there with the two men when Thompson was killed," a police statement said on Monday night. "They also believe a second vehicle was deliberately parked in front of Thompson’s car in an attempt to box him in." The image of one of the suspects was released.
