The Irishman knows his side will need to be 100% if they are to achieve success in Europe.
Here comes the tricky bit. The art of finding the balancing act and of putting into practice in the most dangerous place of all.
And while Rodgers refutes any suggestion that he’s not as tactically bold or ambitious as the Aussie – he knows this is an appropriate moment to throw a protective arm around a side which can often be too brave for its own good. It’s only a fortnight since they left Feyenoord with another blood nose on opening night after all. And Rodgers nodded: “I just think that each day and each game that has gone by, we’re just improving and developing and that’s what I expect.
And yet, as much as Rodgers realises Celtic will have to display an element of caution and control against the Serie A big guns, he knows too the importance of the blood and thunder approach which makes this place so special under the lights. He went on: “Every point at this level is very important. You can play well, you can perform but you can pick up nothing.
“It will never flip to us sitting really low. Sometimes you can get forced into that because quality can push you back. But our whole idea is, I’m not a coach who likes to wait. I like to be proactive in the game, I like to go and make it really uncomfortable. My experiences tell me if you give good players too much time then they will hurt you.
Rodgers said: “I’m realistic too. You are judging this over a time when the game has moved on so much. “The recipe for this game is having that bravery to go and show our quality and everything that we want to do and not allow them to do the things they want to do. If we can do that over the course of this competition then hopefully we can give the supporters a win to cherish here.
