There was a time when “San Diego beer” meant “hoppy ales.” Unfortunately for Doug Hasker, that time coincided with his arrival in town.
When local brewers venture into the unforgiving world of lagers, many turn to the area’s acknowledged master. A Northern California native, Hasker began his professional life as a self-employed graphic artist. Design work took him to Gordon Biersch in 1990, where he was hired to tend bar and keep order. In his free time, he soaked up the brewers’ knowledge.
