“What we have to ensure is there is appropriate benchmarking of economics, productivity, policy settings to ensure we are able to attract the capital to Australia that’s going to allow us to develop the mineral resources to Australia and develop the clean energy industry here because this is a competition and others are moving really quickly.

“We need to work even faster to get in place the workers to drive this transformation,” Mr Bowen said. This included 141 gigawatts of large-scale wind and solar capacity, 63 gigawatts of storage and hydro capacity and 69 gigawatts of small-scale solar and household batteries by 2050.“This presents an enormous opportunity at a time when even the current demand for clean energy workers is going unmet,” Mr Thornton said.The doubling of renewable energy in Australia from 15 per cent to 30 per cent over the past five years had created a 30,000-strong industry in the clean energy sector.

“What that runway gives our members is an opportunity to plan how our members can support workers into the next stage of their careers,” she said.
