Bridgerton's Regé Jean-Page is in favor of RECASTING Simon! 😮 'They’re free to do as they like.'
Bridgerton breakout star Regé-Jean Page reveals he wouldn't mind if they recast his character for future seasons. The Netflix romance series, which is set in Regency era England, is based on the novels of the same name by Julia Quinn. Season 1, which adapted the 2000 book The Duke and I, followed the steamy exploits of Daphne , the eldest daughter of the nine siblings in the Bridgerton family.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Just like the source novels, each season of Bridgerton follows a new sibling in their own romantic travails. Season 2, which premiered earlier this year, followed eldest son Anthony Bridgerton as he entered into a torrid love triangle with sisters Kate and Edwina Sharma . Although Daphne continues to be a recurring character in the series, appearing at the Bridgerton estate to offer romantic guidance, Page did not return to the role that made him a star.
They’re free to do as they like. Shonda [Rhimes] and I had a wonderful conversation at the end of Season 1. We were quite happy with how we stuck the landing on that one. This quote is in keeping with why the actor didn't return to the show in the first place. Part of what drew him to the project was that his character's arc was contained to a single season, which left him free to pursue other projects rather than being trapped in a contract that lasted years and years. The rising star has certainly taken advantage of that opportunity, as well. In addition to The Gray Man, Page is attached to the upcoming 2023 blockbuster Dungeons & Dragons.
While his admission that he doesn't mind being recast at least resolves his intentions regarding the future of the show, it likely wouldn't happen. Simon Basset is one of the reasons fans loved Bridgerton in the first place, so his recasting would likely feel like a slap in the face. If Page has to be offscreen, it's probably best that the character remain that way as well.
