book universe are as beloved Kate, the headstrong young woman who eventually sweeps Anthony Bridgerton off his feet. Confidently stepping into the coveted role is 26-year-old Simone Ashley. The British actor plays Kate Sharma in Season 2, a reimagined version of the fiery heroine that better aligns with Rhimes's inclusive vision for the show. As such, Kate's background has been adapted to reflect Simone's own Indian heritage.

In the second season, the ton welcomes the Sharma family — sisters Kate and Edwina and their mother, Lady Mary — as the newest members of London's elite inner circle. With her little sister Edwina fielding proposals left and right, it's up to protective Kate to ensure her sister lands the best catch of the marriage season. This puts her at odds with Anthony, who eyes Edwina as his perfect match, and the two get off to a messy start.

This is Simone's first starring role, having previously appeared as a recurring character in Netflix's. But it surely won't be her last. In addition to her acting chops, Simon is trained in classical music, opera, and musical theater — another win for the “musical special” agenda — and she even writes her own songs. The multifaceted talent is also in the process of starting her own production company so that she can tell her own stories.

In season 2, Anthony decides that he's finally ready for a marriage of convenience, making him the season's most eligible bachelor. When he sets his sights on Lady Edwina Sharma, however, he makes a quick enemy out of her sister Kate, who doesn't think he's good enough for her sister. Hmm. Pot, meet kettle. It doesn't take long for this mutual disdain to blossom into attraction.
