Ivan, eight, wins the South Downs young photography prize with an image of tulips at Arundel Castle.

An eight-year-old who fled the war in Ukraine two years ago to come to the UK has won a prestigious photography prize.

Ivan, who now lives in Brighton with his mother, came first in the under-10 category in the South Downs National Park youth photography competition.Ivan's mother Kateryna said he is a "very creative boy" who "likes to photograph nature and loves flowers". She added: “We arrived in England after the start of the war in Ukraine, but my husband remains in Ukraine."I try to give them a full childhood, where there is beauty and peace.”Jessica, 13, who lives near Brighton, won in the 11 to 17 category with a close up image of a cow .

Her father John said: “Jessica said she loves living so close the South Downs National Park as it is so beautiful and peaceful. “The picture she took makes her laugh every time she sees it, especially the expression on the cow’s face.”
