Brisbane Airport Corporation has urged the state government to remove the requirement for people within its terminals to wear masks, following new advice from the federal government’s key health advisory body.
On Tuesday, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee reviewed restrictions and determined there was no longer a need for masks to be mandated in airports.Masks would continue to be required on flights.
“The AHPPC proposes that mask wearing in airport terminals no longer be mandated from as early as midnight on June 17, 2022.”The recommendation means individual states and territories will be able to lift the mandate from midnight on Friday. A BAC spokesman said the airport urged the Queensland government, along with its counterparts in other jurisdictions, to follow the AHPPC advice.“In welcoming this news, we do hope each state and territory follows suit and consistently removes the mask mandate across all jurisdictions,” he said.
