The AFL Commission will meet on Tuesday to decide the location of the grand final, with Brisbane favoured to be given the green light to stage it.
The AFL does not have sole discretion over where the grand final will be staged, given they have a contract with the Victorian state government to hold the game at the MCG. The state government has a say in where the game goes but the commission will receive a recommendation from the executive on where they believe it should be held.The commission is only meeting to discuss the finals location and timing. It is accepted the game will not be held in Victoria due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The grand final bids are not comparable in terms of what is on offer financially, logistically and the size of a crowd potentially permitted to attend the game. South Australia is almost certain to host finals, if not the grand final, given Port Adelaide's position on top of the ladder and likelihood to earn the right to host a game. Teams are able to fly in and out of SA from Queensland without quarantine restrictions.
