The majority of voters back Opposition Leader Peter Dutton over Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to negotiate with President-elect Donald Trump, a poll shows.The latest Australian Financial Review/Freshwater Strategy poll found 47 per cent of voters believed Dutton was better at negotiating with Trump, compared with 36 per cent who backed Albanese.

Asked about the poll on Seven’s Sunrise, Environment Minister Tanya Plibersek said Albanese had “a terrific conversation” with Trump in their first phone call.“In that conversation, they made the point that we have a very good and close relationship, whether it is the Democrats or the Republicans in power in the US or Liberal or Labor in Australia,” Plibersek said.
