A long-standing proposal to redevelop the Keperra quarry has inched forward with a plan now before Brisbane City Council for rows of townhouses and community facilities.
, lodged this week, would see 91 townhouses built on the higher ground of the former granite quarry in the north-western suburbs.
Council has given preliminary approval for up to 550 dwellings on the 18.9 hectare site. The new application relates to the first multi-unit dwellings, which would be three- and four-bedroom townhouses with a communal pool, gym, field and hall.“An evolution of the conventional townhouse topography, each dwelling is designed to provide flexibility for occupants to tailor their homes to their lifestyle,” the application states.
“Architectural devices, such as outdoor rooms, courtyards and flexible car ports, are configured to allow the experience of landscape to permeate deep into the dwellings themselves.”A working quarry exists nearby - its landholding extends to the border of the Enoggera army barracks - while Bunnings is now part of the established retail and commercial precinct along Settlement Road that connects Keperra to The Gap.
The development would be accessed via a central boulevard running off Samford Road, while bus stops and the Keperra train station are nearby. Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics on Thursday showed Greater Brisbane welcomed more new residents than any other city in 2021-22, and had the highest growth rate .By comparison, Melbourne had a growth rate of 1.1 per cent and Sydney just 0.7 per cent, relying more on existing residents having children, while others moved to Brisbane.
