After legal fights, pandemics and floods delayed the opening of Brisbane’s first public golf course, the new Minnippi Golf Course is now only weeks from teeing off.
The clubhouse has been constructed, all greens have been built, most tees and fairways are finished and landscaping is 95 per cent complete at Brisbane’s first new public golf course in 72 years.
Keen Minnippi Estates golfer Niel Struik practises his putt, eager for Brisbane’s first new public golf course in 72 years to open in about six weeks.For golfers, it replaces the Victoria Park golf course, slowly being transformed for Olympic Games duties in 2032 before becoming new gardens for Brisbane.“Construction on Brisbane’s newest public golf course is within weeks of being completed, and I know the operator is eager to get in and finalise the fit-out as soon as tools are down,” she said.
Originally set to open in 2018, work was pushed back to 2020 then further delayed by COVID-19, before the February 2022 flood.The new clubhouse at Cannon Hill’s Minnippi Golf Course, due to open in about six weeks.Keen golfer Niel Struik specifically shifted into the Minnippi Estates from Wakerley with wife Melony four years ago for the golf course and was very eager for his first game.
The fairways, tees and greens at the new Minnippi Golf Course are almost all ready to be opened to the public.“Due to the floodplain we proposed no sand bunkers on the golf course, a first for Australia,” co-designer Phil Ryan“Instead, as a hazard, we have treated timber fences which create grassy hollows near greens and at traditional ‘bunker’ positions.”
