Britain's Oxford University cuts ties with Sackler family over opioid links

Britain's University of Oxford has cut ties with key benefactor the Sackler family, whose wealth derives from addictive opioid drugs.

, the pharmaceutical giant that produces Oxycontin — a prescription painkiller that has been widely blamed for helping fuel the U.S. opioid crisis.

"Oxford University has undertaken a review of its relationship with the Sackler family and their trusts, including the way their benefactions to the University are recognized," the university said in a statement. As part of the move, the Sackler library will be renamed as the Bodleian Art, Archaeology and Ancient World Library.
