But there are fears this could be interpreted as a gagging law stifling the debate around social issues including access to female toilets for transgender women. Referring to her column in Wednesday's Daily Mail, Ms Vine said: 'I think what JK has done is amazing because pretty much thanks to her, we can now have this conversation because two years ago we could not have.
'I wrote my column today about this saying the women of Britain and the men are behind her and honestly, I have had so many letters from readers saying this is proper leadership.' Police Scotland decided not to arrest Ms Rowling after she made a series of posts on X, formerly known as Twitter, describing prominent trans activists as men not women, in response to the new law.
