Brittney Griner made her first social media post since being arrested in Russia. She said on Instagram she would help get Paul Whelan released also and vowed to play in the WNBA again in 2023.
and thanked those who helped bring her home and vowed to resume her WNBA career this summer.
"It feels so good to be home!," Griner posted, in her first Instagram activity since Feb. 5, which was about two weeks before her arrest."The last 10 months have been a battle at every turn. I dug deep to keep my faith and it was the love from so many of you that helped keep me going. From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone for your help."
Griner was arrested Feb. 17 at an airport in Russia where she was playing professionally during the WNBA's offseason. Russian authorities said she had vape cartridges and cannabis oil in her luggage. President Joe Biden and his administration brought her home in an exchange for imprisoned Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout last week.
Griner said she's going to spend the holidays at home with her family after being treated at San Antonio's Fort Sam Houston Base, and she intends to play in the WNBA, which opens its season May 19. "I also want to make one thing very clear: I intend to play basketball for the WNBA’s Phoenix Mercury this season, and in doing so, I look forward to being able to say ‘thank you’ to those of you who advocated, wrote, and posted for me in person soon," Griner wrote.
