Beat reporter Parker Gabriel hands out grades for the Broncos following their 34-28 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 14.
What started as a disaster turned into the Broncos’ best offensive outing of the season. Quarterback Russell Wilson threw three touchdowns for the first time in his tenure as a Bronco. Jerry Jeudy hauled in three touchdowns – two from Wilson and one from Brett Rypien in the fourth quarter after Wilson suffered a concussion – and Marlon Mack scored on a 66-yard screen pass. On the bad side of the ledger, Wilson was sacked six times and he and Rypien each threw an interception.
It was boom or bust for the Broncos’ defense against Patrick Mahomes and the NFL’s top-scoring offense. They gave up 20 points on Kansas City’s first four possessions but only seven after that. They intercepted three Mahomes passes, including two by inside linebacker Josey Jewell. They gave the offense a chance but ultimately fell short. It was just Mahomes’ third three-interception game of his career. Jerik McKinnon had seven catches for 112 yards and two touchdowns for the Chiefs.
