Thousands flocked to Sydney's Bronte Beach for Christmas festivities, resulting in a significant clean-up effort and one person hospitalized in critical condition. The event, likened to a music festival, left behind a considerable amount of trash. While increased security was present, paramedics attended the beach multiple times for intoxication and injury cases, including glass injuries and sprained ankles. One major incident involved a man suffering head injuries after slipping while jumping off a cliff.

Thousands of revellers descended upon Sydney ’s Bronte Beach for Christmas festivities on Wednesday, resulting in a large clean-up and one person in a critical condition in hospital. The now-traditional celebration continued well into the night and reportedly left a mess in its wake, with large crowd s some have likened to those at a music festival.

Wild Christmas party takes over Bronte Beach in Sydney. Residents have complained about rubbish and food scraps left behind by partygoers, with clean-up crews working overnight to clean up the mess. There was reportedly increased security this year, though it was not treated as a major event requiring paramedics on standby. Paramedics did attend the beach several times throughout the day for incidents of intoxication and injuries — including glass injuries and sprained ankles.

Police spokesperson only highlighted one major incident throughout the day. A man was jumping off a cliff into a pool when he “slipped and fell onto hard surface” near Calga Pl at Bronte about 4.30pm, they said. He suffered head injuries and was treated by paramedics at the beach. “A specialist medical team was flown to the scene by helicopter, landing in Calga Reserve,” NSW Police said.
