“They don’t like me in Upper East Side lady clothes,” said the 57-year-old star, whose new documentary, “Pretty Baby,” hits Hulu April 3. “They don’t like that; they like me much edgier.” Grier, for instance, was “beyond” happy to see her mom try out an “edgy” dress-and-sneakers combo from luxury streetwear label Off-White recently.
“I think it’s the only time she’s ever just marveled [at] and been proud of me,” Shields recalled. “She’s like, ‘How did you know about [Off-White]?’ I said, ‘I don’t know, it just looked really cool.’ She’s like, ‘Mom, do you realize how cool that is? You’re cool.'” Shields, pictured with Grier during New York Fashion Week in February, typically prefers more ladylike looks.The model coordinated with her daughters at Z100’s iHeartRadio Jingle Ball in December.She added that her kids want her to dress “much more rock and roll” — and show “total midriff.”
