Canadian giant Brookfield has completed the sale of Luna Park, a Sydney landmark, to the NSW hospitality group Oscars Group after a six-month sale process. The amusement park, well-known to generations of Sydneysiders, has faced multiple ups and downs, including several closures and a planning battle over a new ride. Despite its history of planning battles and political controversies, the sale campaign attracted interest from operators worldwide.
Canadian giant Brookfield has sold the much-loved Sydney landmark Luna Park to NSW hospitality group Oscars Group following a six-month sale process . Well-known to generations of Sydney siders due to its proximity to the Sydney Harbour Bridge and iconic entrance face, the sale of the amusement park follows the asset experiencing multiple ups and downs, including several closures over its long history and more recently a planning battle in 2018 over a new ride.
Despite the harbourside attraction being site of a series of planning battles and political controversies over the decades, Luna Park’s sale campaign drew interest from entertainment and theme park operators from the US, Europe and Asia. Local theme park operators such as Village Roadshow – the owner of Gold Coast theme parks Warner Bros.
