James, 64, was handed 10 life sentences for terrorism and violence against a mass transit system. Prosecutors said that James created a ‘kill funnel’ in the train car by positioning himself at one end, detonating smoke bombs, and firing bullets into the crowd. A total of 10 riders, ranging in age from 16 to 60, were wounded by gunfire in the attack.
