Whatever the Browns thought they fixed after Week 1, it clearly wasn’t the case.
Nick Chubb tried to be the hero, willing the Browns to a win by running for three touchdowns.There’s plenty of mistakes to pick from this game. In the first quarter the Browns were fooled on a fake punt that got the Ravens a first down and led to the Jets’ first touchdown. Before the half, the Jets tied the game at 14 as Joe Flacco found Breece Hall for a 20-yard TD thanks to a blown coverage by the Browns secondary.
Late in the fourth quarter, another blown coverage led to a 63-yard touchdown to Corey Davis, where Grant Delpit and Denzel Ward both got caught behind the receiver. With under two minutes to go, another special teams blunder, as the Jets recovered an onside kick with under two minutes to play. For most of the game, it felt like Flacco -- who isn’t what he once was, obviously, but can still process the game -- was targeting Delpit in particular on these chunk plays. He converted 8-of-15 first downs and 3-of-4 red zone tries.Cleveland’s defense needs to get it’s act together, and fast. This four-game stretch is supposed to be the “easy” portion of the schedule after all, as they are without Deshaun Watson for the first 11 as he serves out his personal conduct policy suspension.
The Browns came into this season knowing the defense was going to have to help carry this team.
