The author and columnist, who is married to high-profile presenter Lisa Wilkinson, pursued Lehrmann for his costs of complying with a subpoena in the defamation case against Ten and Wilkinson.
Bruce Lehrmann has agreed to pay Peter FitzSimons $4616 to cover the author and columnist’s costs of producing documents during the former federal Liberal staffer’s failed defamation case against Network Ten and FitzSimons’ wife, Lisa Wilkinson., amid a broader fight between Ten, Wilkinson and Lehrmann over who will foot the multimillion-dollar bill for the media parties’ lawyers. FitzSimons also recovered his costs of applying to the court for an order.
However, it is likely the network will be left on the hook for the media parties’ costs in light of Lehrmann’s lack of funds. The unemployed law student has not worked since June 2021. The ruling opened the door to Ten reimbursing Wilkinson for her legal bills under an indemnity which covers costs “properly incurred and reasonable in amount”.
