After a last-minute postponement, Federal Court Justice Michael Lee will deliver his judgment in the multimillion-dollar lawsuit at 10.15am.
One of the issues that will be explored by Federal Court Justice Michael Lee in his judgment today is whether Network Ten and Lisa Wilkinson acted reasonably in airing Brittany Higgins’ allegation of sexual assault on The Project on February 15, 2021.That is because one of the defences Ten and Wilkinson have raised in the Lehrmann case is qualified privilege.
These include, but are not limited to, the sources of information, their quality, independent verification of allegations where possible, and whether the applicant was given a reasonable time to respond prior to broadcast.”Lehrmann’s lawyers allege that Ten “failed, until the last possible moment, to actually include any real attempt to research the other side”.
