Channel 7 broadcasting icon Bruce McAvaney was given a standing ovation at the 2022 TV Week Logie Awards on Sunday night after becoming the latest inductee into the Hall of Fame.about his dedication in the video aboveFamous for his extraordinary attention to detail and unmatched levels of preparation, it’s no coincidence that McAvaney has been at the top of his game calling several sports for over four decades.
“This guy is one of the best commentators in the world – he’s not one of the best commentators in Australia, he’s one of the best commentators in the world,” Taylor said. “But the thing that most amazes me about the 2000 pieces of information that he brings along, is that he might only use 15 or 20 of them, and he’s prepared to throw out the rest.
“I loved working with Bruce, because he knew when you needed a dash of confidence and he knew when to inject that into you, and he knew when to laugh, and he also knew when to pull you up and say ‘hey, I don’t reckon you should go there’.”Credit:McAvaney’s acceptance speech on Sunday night was laced with typical humility, as he shared his gratitude for being given the ‘privilege’ of going into Australians’ loungerooms to broadcast sport to them.
