BTS, Psy and Suga are the only K-pop acts that have hit No. 1 on the sales-only chart.

Rockefeller Plaza on February 21, 2020 in New York City. The bestselling song in America this week is “Girl of My Dreams” by Juice WRLD and Suga. The tune is featured on the late rapper’s new album, the second project released since his passing in December 2019. The cut was presented as a promotional single from the title, and clearly fans of both acts enjoyed it, as they bought it in large enough quantities to help it.

“Girl of My Dreams” is the first No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart for both WRLD and Suga, and it’s an incredibly important win for the latter act. With his debut champion on the purchase-only list, the BTS member becomes just the third K-pop musician to reach the summit on the competitive American ranking.

The first K-pop musician to hit No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart was Psy, who managed the feat just once, though when he did, it was a truly momentous occasion. The South Korean superstar took over the world in 2012 with his single “Gangnam Style,” which still remains one of the most successful true viral sensations. The cut worked its way to the peak position, and it would be several years before another K-pop act matched that feat.

BTS became the second K-pop act to top the Digital Song Sales chart in 2018, and since they first appeared on the throne, they have racked up quite a few champions. The South Korean boy band has pushed nine different cuts to the peak of the purchase-only list, with several of them hanging on for very long stretches of time. In fact, the septet claims the two longest-running No. 1 hits of all time on the tally, with their smashes “Dynamite” and “Butter” tying one another for that honor.

In total, BTS has sent all of the following nine songs to No. 1 on the Digital Song Sales chart: “Dynamite,” “Butter,” “My Universe” with Coldplay, “Permission to Dance,” “Life Goes On,” “On,” “Fake Love,” “Film Out” and “Idol” with Nicki Minaj. In addition to their nine leaders , BTS has charted 18 other top 10 smashes on the list.
