The party plans to raise almost $5 billion over the next four years by cutting the use of consultants and cracking down on multinational tax evasion.
, shadow treasurer Jim Chalmers said Labor would save $3 billion over the next four years by slashing the use of consultants and labour hire by the government.through measures ranging from targeting the use of tax havens to limiting the amount of debt that can be deducted.
Rather than be used to directly pay down debt and deficit, the $5 billion to be realised from the cut to consultants and tax initiatives would be used to fund spending promises for policies that Labor says will drive productivity and deliver a broader economic dividend.incomes, and the best way to improve the economy and lift growth is to make smart and responsible investments to expand productive capacity, so the economy can grow faster than debt,” Dr Chalmers said.
“This isn’t a remotely credible plan when Labor can’t tell you by how much the economy would grow, how many jobs they would create or by how much wages would supposedly rise,” he said. Another $450 million would stem from limits on the ability of multinationals “to abuse Australia’s tax treaties when holding intellectual property in tax havens”.
