Some of the nation's most vulnerable people grappling with soaring power bills are being promised relief in Tuesday's federal budget.
Reportedly $285 million is being set aside for the government to deposit one-off cash payments into the bank accounts of veterans, pensioners, people living with a disability and single parents. The payments aim to help people in various regions around the country, especially in Queensland, which has the highest rate of power disconnections. Meanwhile, due to the strong budget position, there's speculation the government could speed up already legislated tax cuts.
