DeMar DeRozan extended his NBA-record streak of 35-point games on 50 percent shooting or better to eight straight games and tossed in the game-winning basket to boot.
DeRozan scored 37 points on 15-for-21 shooting. He posted his highest-scoring first quarter of the season with 16 points, crossed the 20-point mark early in the second quarter and then scored 12 points in the fourth quarter to run his league-leading total to 443. His eight-game streak of 35-point games is two games shy of Michael Jordan's franchise record.
As for his game-winning three-point play? He broke it down with a Zen-like approach that would make Phil Jackson smile. “When you’re in those moments, you gotta take it on,” DeRozan said. “I love the moments. I love the challenge. I love the opportunity. It’s fun to me.” Making his Bulls debut, Tristan Thompson, a longtime friend of DeRozan’s, called him a “smooth criminal.” He also flexed his Chicago knowledge by saying the basket is looking the size of Lake Michigan for DeRozan these days.“I’ve played with some big-time players. And when it’s money time, you give them the ball and they make something happen,” said Thompson, who advanced to multiple NBA Finals with LeBron James. “He’s been doing it night in and night out.
