Advocacy groups have slammed the City of Bunbury's decision to play the repetitive children's song on loop to deter people from sleeping rough at a popular public bandstand.

Western Australia's largest regional city has admitted to using The Wiggles' music in an apparent bid to drive homeless people away from a regularly used shelter and sleeping spot.Wiggles music is being played on a loop to discourage "anti-social behaviour" in Bunbury

In a statement, Bunbury Mayor Jaysen Miguel said the playing of looped music was an established way — across the state — of "discouraging people to congregate permanently in an area and to deter antisocial behaviour". "I don't understand why somebody would do that, if they have compassion for what's happening to homeless people," he said.

Bunbury MP Don Punch said he was disappointed in the approach used by the city, given there were a number of services to help the homeless.
