A woman has been seriously burned in a Bunnings sausage sizzle accident in Adelaide. The 50-year-old suffered serious facial burns while volunteering at the SA Sea Rescue Squadron barbecue on Saturday afternoon. It is understood she knocked over a gas bottle, causing it to catch alight. Her husband also suffered minor burns trying to pull her away. The woman was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital about 12.15pm.
Witness Lushinda Ellul described the chaotic scene as “a lot going on”. “There were a lot of people running around freaking out,” she said. The marquee was completely destroyed in the blaze, but Ellul said it could have been much worse. “There was a lot of people around and kids,” she said. Bunnings said staff acted quickly to try to contain the fire.
