The Bureau of Meteorology has recorded 146 kilometre per hour gusts at the Julia Creek airport as a ferocious storm has torn through the region.
The mayor says multiple buildings across the town have been damaged and lightning south of the town has started fires.The clean-up effort will continue tomorrow when temperatures are expected to be in the 40s.Wind gusts of nearly 150 kilometres per hour have caused widespread damage in a remote north-west Queensland town.
The winds ripped the roof from a house, partially damaged the roof of another and left debris scattered across streets.The storm left 73 Ergon Energex customers without power. The Queensland Fire Department said multiple fires were burning around the town, but the town was not at risk.Ms Fegan said the storm lasted between 45 minutes and an hour.
