Military forces in Burkina Faso detained the country’s president after a wave of street protests against his government’s failure to stem thein the north, opposition officials and Western diplomats said, thrusting the West African nation into uncertainty.
President Roch Kabore and several top government officials were held at a military base in the capital, Ouagadougou, that houses the army headquarters and a prison, the officials and diplomats said. It couldn’t be determined exactly who was holding Mr. Kabore, or whether they would attempt to establish a new government.
