In an emotional interview, however, the driver told News 12 Long Island that it was a misunderstanding. When heading out for work Wednesday, Amal Hanna told the station's reporters that she grabbed what she believed to be a regular seltzer that her roommate had left in the fridge. She said she had no idea there was alcohol in a White Claw, and had trouble tasting because she's undergoing chemotherapy and did not taste any alcohol.
Suffolk County Police told News 12 Long Island that Hanna did not realize it was an alcoholic beverage and said no charges would be filed against her. Several parents came to Hanna's defense, who's been a bus driver for 15 years, was meticulous, reliably on time and treated the children as if they were her own.
