“I want to create a workforce that’s large, nationally mobile, fully funded, and paid – rather than using under-resourced volunteers,” Mr Ayles told news.com.au. “During the emergency off seasons the permanent full-time work force would do training and preparation for the coming disaster season.” Struggling to get the company off the ground, Mr Ayles took up work as a mine rescue captain. He now spends his earnings and spare time on Aidforce.
Mr Ayles believes the award was for his work with the community, with his most memorable case being helping a pregnant lady. “The local volunteers came a few days after to check if we were alive. A few days too late. They told me they were restricted by their resources and policies.
