NAB is engaging with 100 of Australia’s largest emitters to improve their transition plans and categorise their readiness to transition to a low-carbon economy.
The property, construction and services sectors are among the most mature of all the high greenhouse gas-emitting industries when it comes to transitioning to a low-carbon economy.
NAB’s head of sustainability, client coverage, corporate and institutional banking, Leanne Bloch-Jorgensen, says the results are positive so far. NBN executive general manager Fiona Trigona explains the business has matured its sustainability reporting posture from being compliance-focused to setting out a program of works. “This has evolved naturally.”
She highlights several trends when it comes to a business’s preparedness for a low-carbon economy. “Governance and disclosure is one. Around 84 per cent of customers we’ve reviewed are either reporting under, or have committed to report under, the Taskforce for Climate-related Financial Disclosures.”
