Premier Steven Miles will be watching Saturday’s byelections in Inala and Ipswich West particularly closely after a new opinion poll indicated Labor faced defeat in October.

Saturday’s two byelections will give new premier Steven Miles a timely gauge of his party’s chances in October’s state election.

However, Miles is set to get a better idea of his Labor government’s election hopes on Saturday, with byelections to be held in two traditional Labor strongholds, Ipswich West and Inala, the seat of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk.“Winning Ipswich West will be very, very hard. I’ve been saying that every day, and you guys haven’t believed me,” he told reporters.

He went on to become a senior minister before being succeeded by his daughter, who resigned in December, with Miles taking on the premiership.
