A 30-year-old man was charged with threatening a federal judge in Northern California.
SACRAMENTO — Federal prosecutors have filed charges against an incarcerated man alleging that he mailed threats to a federal judge who’d previously ruled on his failed petition to overturn his convictions, court records show.
Dylan Corral, 30, faces charges of threatening a federal judge in Sacramento who is identified in court records by the initials KJN. The only federal judge in Sacramento with those initials is U.S. Magistrate Judge Kendall J. Newman, a 2010 appointee. In 2017, Newman denied a petition filed by Corral, seeking to overturn his convictions for making criminal threats, assault with a deadly weapon, and vandalism. Newman ruled that prosecution witnesses had been properly admitted and rejected Corral’s assertion that his appeal attorney was incompetent, court records show.
Corral — who is being held in the California Medical Facility in Stockton — has taken several legal actions from prison while acting as his own attorney, including civil rights suits and the habeas petition. He has been denied early release for the past two years, prison records show.
