Cabinet to tell Boris Johnson his time is up as more than 100 MPs pull support | latikambourke

Boris Johnson is defiantly staring down fresh attempts to oust him from No.10 Downing Street, sacking his political rival Michael Gove from cabinet after a frontbench delegation comprising some of his most loyal lieutenants told him to quit as prime minister.

May’s former chief of staff Nick Timothy said Johnson would be “more toxic than Nixon” by the end of his reign. Gavin Barwell, who succeeded Timothy and served as May’s chief of staff when she was forced out by Johnson said that should happen sooner, to stop Johnson’s scorched earth policy on the way out.“The difference between Boris and previous leaders of the Conservative Party is that they cared about the party and when reluctantly persuaded they were no longer an asset [they] did the decent thing,” he said. This means MPs are looking to the cabinet to exert pressure on the prime minister to step down.
