The enormous cost to Queensland taxpayers for the explosion at Callide Power Station has been laid out, with a report into the disaster costing more than $10 million.

An electrical fault at CS Energy's Callide Power Station in 2021 sparked a catastrophic explosion that left 500,000 homes and businesses without power.

The incident at the state-owned power plant resulted in hundreds of millions of dollars in damage and led to a rise in energy prices for Queenslanders.Callide Power Station in Queensland. As safety and maintenance issues continue to plague the doomed site, it can now be revealed CS board executives were paid more than $300,000 dollars in bonuses."We've expressed our apologies for the incident and not maintaining the world-class standards," Busine said.

The state's Energy Minister Mick de Brenni was pressed on the 2022-23 FY bonuses at today's Budget Estimates meeting."The remuneration of government-owned corporation staff is entirely a matter for the board."On top of that, CS Energy spent $38 million on external fees, which included attempts to prevent some of the findings from being released.

Questions have also been raised about why it took so long for the Energy Minister to find out about the maintenance issues at the plant when CS Energy received a draft report detailing the failures last December." Energy was speaking to the Minister about progress on the report. We didn't communicate with the Minister about the contents of the report," he said.
