The mother of a 19-year-old who died in a crash earlier this year says road safety should be compulsory in schools.
Carolyn Herring says Tom's Law is a step in the right direction but thinks schools need more road safety education. Road Safety Minister David Michael says expanding the school based Keys4Life pre- driver education program is something which could be looked into.A mum who lost her 19-year-old son in a motorcycle crash says new laws for young drivers are a "good start" but road safety education needs to begin much earlier.
She said safety education needed to be a bigger priority before young people started learning to drive. Under the new law, red P-plate drivers in WA will be restricted to just one passenger in their car from December.Road Safety Minister David Michael said Tom's Law had been informed by discussions with road safety experts and surviving families."Drivers who have just passed their learner's test, the first few months after that is the most riskiest time," he told ABC Radio Perth."We can look at the Keys4life program and rolling it our further," he said.
