One expert argues that while the tax should be overhauled, it should not be eliminated entirely.
Senior Tories call the tax"unfair" but experts argue that it would be more beneficial to revamp the tax rather than eliminate it entirelyNO USE: Senior economist Paul Johnson said the ‘genuinely unfair’ tax, which is ‘absurdly easy to avoid’ for the super rich, should be reformed
He said that the current system allows the very wealthy to avoid paying their fair share, while those with only one asset find it harder to escape the tax's reach. Johnson took to Twitter to express his views, stating,"The very wealthy pay an average rate half, or less, that paid by the moderately wealthy."If all you leave is the family house, it's hard to avoid. If you have millions, it is absurdly easy to avoid.
Supporters of inheritance tax argue that it primarily affects a small number of wealthy individuals, and scrapping it would not benefit the majority of the population. The New Economics Foundation think tweeted: “Inheritance tax applies to a small number of wealthy people. Most of us would see no benefit from scrapping it.
